Perhaps this would be a motivation for you all for the new year.  Matisse is my cousin’s kid, and if I am not mistaken, he is now 5/6 years old. From time to time, I would teach him Kung Fu.  While playing in the park, he busted out a few moves:

Uncle Nick is so proud, Matisse!

Hello everybody,

Recently I made some interesting experience in push hands situations. This year, after my first stay on Daqingshan I did change nearly all my Taiji practice to “Practical Method” (circles and Yilu mostly), simply because I got the feeling that this way to practice is much more intense and “on the point”.

Dot in Space 3

by Wilkin Ng on 2010/12/04

Here is a clip from the Dot mini-lesson to illustrate the concept of creating rotation from a fixed dot outside your body. In DQS Master Chen showed this to me but I have a hard time understanding what he meant until I draw the circle of the rotation. I hope this short clip from the Dot mini lesson clarify this technique.

This seminar gave many students an opportunity to work closely with Master Chen on movement relationships: hand to foot, elbow to knee, and shoulder to waist.  Qua exercises and coordination exercises were used as part of the learning of relationships.

The S-line of taiji. Yilus. Practice of the S-line.

Practiced the two lines of positive circle all day! I think everybody is getting it by the evening! Are you now eels, snakes, or sticks?

This is a chapter of the rare writing by Hong Junsheng that just surfaced recently. Here it is for readers of our website.

The old Chen Style Taijiquan Treatise begins with “Taijiquan, the method of Chan.” This is the characteristic of taijiquan. It is this point that it conforms to physiology; it is also this point that it conforms to physical dynamics. Read more

Here I am practicing in the harsh HK winter,  a whole 22 degrees – eat your heart out, Canada! – the air is much dryer due to the winds, and the marble floor in my house is now nearly a skating rink.   Read more

I find this article interesting.

This afternoon we managed to taped a 25-minute session on the error of Tossing. In this mini lesson, I had to integrate the concepts of tossing, moving and rotation into one. Really, I could not talk about Tossing in isolation. An exercise called 3-count stepping was introduced to combat Tossing.
Thank you very much Allan, Mat, Alex and Andy for being part of this. The video will be available on Monday, if not sooner. Click here to see the video.

I will be in Maple Ridge, BC this weekend. It’s going to be another nice gathering of Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method people from Vancouver, Seattle, Victoria…

A lot of action on 4 days of workshop, and a great dinner to award ourselves and concluded the perfect ending.

I have been playing basketball once a week for about 3 years. Recently, I notice that my basketball skills have improved. I shoot the ball more accurately, I can play defense more efficiently, and at the end of the game, I am not as exhausted as before. When I bump into people, I simply feel myself less fragile.

After training in the sweltering Shandong heat, morning Yilu’s in Edmonton feel like a walk in the park.  It’s not just the temperature though, after training on Daqingshan for three months I feel refreshed, relaxed, inspired and just generally ready to go!  You should go too…seriously.

You might wonder why I bring the 1930’s into the equation. Well, to my mind, the 1930’s is where all the trouble started for a lot of students.  So what happened in the 1930’s you may ask.
