I just started training foundations with an interval training timer app on my Android device. It is a great way to allot a fixed amount of time per exercise and allow one to focus entirely on certain aspects of the body method, energy alignment, etc. Read more

Since July 2011, Steve has been learning taiji from Master Chen in Toronto.

I think everyone had a good time the other day.  I wanted to say thank you to all who participated and those who hosted the event.  I met people from Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois – Some experienced and some newer to Practical Method.  We worked on Yilu, foundations, partner excersises and push hands.  Everyone seemed genuine and receptive.  Read more

Now people visiting Daqingshan can have one card for door admission, hotel charges, restaurant charges, purchase of any items on Daqingshan.

Did a lot of push hand this workshop. Master Chen gave us training tips to get ready for competition in May at Daqingshan. One thing I have to keep in mind is to be willing to fall down then try to get away or shove back. Always get in!

When I first heard Master Chen said “not-on not-off” in push hand a few years ago, I thought it was impossible. We either push (on), or not push (off). Through years of training, I slowly come to understand that “not-on not-off” is the result of “peng”, or Yin Yang separation.

A few days ago, after I wrote about stepping training by hugging a tree, I dreamed about a new exercise to help students experiencing “not-on not-off” by pushing a tree. Read more

Brazil Seminar 1 Notes 4

by JVanko on 2012/12/07

Master Chen gave a seminar in Guaratinguetá, Brazil (near São Paulo) in November 2012. He asked me to post my notes, and so here they are. I am posting the summarized version now, and will post more detail on these from time to time.

The seminar was amazing. Our teachers and students had the good fortune to be left with not just a lesson in Taiji, but also with lessons to be applied in their lives. Read more

The event that originally was centered around a push hands workshop featuring Steven Chan has been reduced to an Upper Midwest Get-together hosted by John Upshaw in Iowa City, Iowa. These are great learning experiences that include a lot of sweat, bruises, and push hands followed by good food and great camaraderie. The get-together will start around 1:30 PM on Friday December 7th. There will be more fun and learning opportunities on Saturday and Sunday. If interested give John a call at 1-(319) 404-3962 or email him at johnnyupshaw@yahoo.com

This is a photo of construction of the Daqingshan Hotel (4-star) on Nov. 17, 2012. This hotel must be completed by May for the May 25, 2013 Daqingshan International Taiji Festival.

I am very impressed with Steve’s demos, he is able to explain his actions exactly like Master Chen with no deviation. It’s like deja-vu. I have heard the same explanations from Master Chen in a different place at a different time. I can learn so much from him.
