morning lesson: sequence in push hand, ‘ding’, get in, push, if it doesn’t work, ‘zhuan guan’
I showed Beijing Rick last night that when being pushed, he has to learn to ‘ding’ instead of turning his body to neutralize. Master Chen often told me I was moving too much when doing it the wrong way.
‘ding’ is commonly used as 顶住 which mean withstand.

While I was waiting in Weifang I thought I would take a walk and check out the Kite Museum. An hour later I and my suitcase arrived only to find out they were closed for the day. So I decided it was a good place for an Yilu before heading back to the train station.
My question is assuming that the kua(s) are opened does that result in neutral equalibrium because the center of gravity is neither raised or lowered, basically by allowing those to be at the same level at the same time then potential energy, rotation, and reveloution are possible because if something with neutral equilibrium moves those around with follow, and then using joint rotation, you are using angular velocity which then turns into linear velocity, almost like a series of rotations(angular velocity occur) starting from the bottom up then transmitted to linear velocity, therefore if you have these continous angular velocity it is like a wheel continuously spinning around the axis while taiji has numerous axis points that are rotating.

I had a great time at this year’s Edmonton 7 day seminar even though I was only able to attend for two days. We started out the mornings working through a lot of foundations, which I don’t drill as often as I should. Every time I come to Edmonton I learn a lot of helpful drills that really help work out the details in parts of the form. Read more

After came back from DaQingShan, I resumed Practical Method Foundation classes every Wednesday for one hour. In one of the classes recently, when we were practicing “twisting the towel”, I saw one student’s elbows were away from his body. In that position, his elbows are out. In order to let him understand what is “in”, what is “out”, I used a short stick to demonstrate for him. I let myself ready in the “twisting the towel” position, put one end of the stick against my rib and rest my middle finger on the stick. Then I showed him clearly when the elbow is out and when the elbow is in. To my surprise, I realized my elbows have never been truly “IN” before. Read more
