Zheng 挣, an outward expanding force, must be present at all times. It is a more concrete expression for the taiji idea of Peng energy. Peng is more like a concept and Zheng is more like the action.
In general the five heads (two hands, two feet and one head) must always stay outward. This requires the five to Zheng outwards all the time.
In this video, Master Chen Zhonghua explains this idea of Zheng in theory and in relation to taiji movements.

You have to stretch the body parts involved to make them a stick. Then you can rotate this stick. This is a crucial preparation for any further actions in Taiji movements. In free movements, one must rotate as action regardless of the body part's shape. This is rather difficult as we know that sticks are more conducive to rotation than other shapes.
In this video clip, Master Chen Zhonghua shows the basic stretching into a stick with some yilu movements as examples.
This video is in Mandarin. What Master Chen Zhonghua showed in this clip
is the Taiji concept of “Flow the the Curvature and Extend into the
Straight Line”. In this case the opponent’s action is on the hands
applied to the shoulder. So the shoulder moves along the same path as
the opponent’s move, while the Kua extends into (behind) the opponent’s
wait (center).
The original exercise is designed as a shoulder loosening drill.

The movements prior to action are adjustments. To adhere is to adjust, in a way. It is to take out space. It is a necessary type of movements that will lead to quality actions later.

The movements are correction. The intension is not there yet. In this exercise, the intension is expressed by the sequence of movements. After bending the body from the kua, you should try to lock the lower part of the body (especially the knees) and the head. Only move the kua forward.

We normally change direction by moving the outside such as hand, head and knee. In Practical Method, we change direction by moving the inside such as elbow and kua.

In Practical Method one of the rules of movement is the lock the two ends and only move the middle. In this clip, Master Chen uses the Kua folding to demonstrate/practice this rule. Imaging the knee and the shoulder(on the same side) are on a track/line. The Kua is outside of this line. By pushing the Kua into this line, the shoulder and knee are force to open in distance. This is an important exercise of the internal movements of Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method.

In Practical Method we open the Kua. Open here means to make able to rotate. In this clip, Master Chen Zhonghua teaches a method to achieve this. Restrict the Kua movements horizontally. Like putting a ball in a square box that fits just right. The ball cannot move sideways, or backward and forward. This restriction causes the Kua movements to only rotate. And the result of this rotation will cause the movement to create an energy that travels down the leg to the heal.

Lock the two ends and move the middle. Use the kua as the middle. The leg as one and the rest as the other. The opening (movement) of the Kua opens the two body parts. This is a training video clip.
