This is mine. What is yours?
- Continue to watch my masters’ original videos and read their original writings.
- Teach sword and broadsword.
- Stay away from the corruption of the society and of the taiji world. This means I will not copy or forward anything from the web. Every word must come from my heart, from my own experiences and from my own hand.
To celebrate the New Year, we are going to gather and practice Yilu and Cannon Fist at North Mountain Park (7th Street and Peoria Ave.) from 8am to 10am on January 1, 2015. Everyone is welcome. Brunch at Ping’s place afterwards. RSVP to Ping (602-373-3457) by December 31.
If anyone is interested in training together I moved to Houston Texas earlier this year.
I am a student of Master Chen and have had the privilege of training with him throughout the U.S. and once in Canada. Most of my training has been with Levi Sowers, John Upshaw, Erwin Ramthun, and Tim Duehring in the Upper Midwest group, and I have attended workshops in New York/New Jersey, Phoenix, Milwaukee, and Maple Ridge.
Please contact me at ThirdCoastTaiji@pm.me and we can find a time that works for both of us.

Practical Method in Toronto is expanding as Steve Man, Master Chen’s Disciple, introduced Practical Method to the Toronto Oriental Centre Taiji Group. On another Fall Ottawa weekend, Rachel, James and Daniel of the Ottawa Practical Methods Group organized an intensive training seminar with Ronnie Yee, one of Master Joseph Chen’s Senior Disciples. For two days, students of the Practical Method in the Ottawa Region as well as Hugo from the Toronto group, enjoyed the stories and instructions from Ronnie.
One of the lessons Master Chen elaborated on at the recent New York workshop was the principle in taiji of training from ‘ Square to Round ‘. This is an abbreviation that describes the difference in the body ( and the resulting changes ) that are the result of training the foundational method of Yilu vs. Cannon Fist , which is the implementation of foundation , applied in martial technique.
The more full expression of ‘ square to round ‘ , that was discussed in the workshop, was that, in the Yilu, ” …..the inside is ‘ square ‘ and the outside is ‘ round ‘….. “, meaning the inside linear movements apprear as a circular move on the outside, and that in Erlu ( cannon fist ) , ” …..the inside is ‘ round ‘, and the outside is ‘ square ‘…..”, meaning the rotation of the inner core, is circular, but the outside of the body must have the ability to fold or ‘wrap’ around corners ( square ).
Although this is really a very big subject requiring a lot of explanation, the following video helps to put these expressions into perspective.

So I got this cool professional camera from Master Chen and I recorded a lot of clips. Still need to sort most of them out but here’s one video I compiled from it.
We took a tour around DQS. The 8 immortal caves as well as some other attractions. It was a nice afternoon and we had together. Lilia, John, Paul, Eric and me. I think I’m not in this video though. Typical photographer problem indeed.
Back in Vienna and now also with a fix 40h job I can’t practice that much. But, as Master Chen often says, Taiji practice is more about perseverance. So I do in fact practice all the time. On the subway, while sitting and an Yilu or Jibengong here and there when waiting on the train.
At first I was worried, that this is not enough. Sure, I won’t be having huge breakthroughs that fast, but I have some from time to time and that’s good. Instead of waiting for some time off where I can practice I practice all the time a little bit. That sums up. I recorded this Video at the end of my first 3 months visit to DQS and I see a lot of improvement already.
What I want to say with this? Do small things all the time. It’s worth it and it’s better than doing nothing after all. (People on the Train might look strange at you, though)
happy training
cheers

Three weeks ago we did arrive on Daqingshan with our little boy. We’re going to stay for 6 weeks, so now’s half time. So far we can say everything worked out very good, the Chinese are all pretty crazy about little Lukas, which very often give us a little more freedom to train – and that’s what we actually came for. So far with quite success. Read more
