After returning from Tai An, unfortunately I caught a cold, so I stayed home a couple of days to sleep it off…
eventually, some good ol’ chinese noodle soup did the trick 😉
So I could enjoy the Rizhao sunrise again…
Here’s a story on my experience. Email me if you’d like a chat.

Hereby some collected Practical Method logos from schools all over the world. If you have one logo and you don’t find it in this rough collection, got a better version or otherwise, please post it in the comments section or send it to me via wechat or by email vincent.denhengst@gmail.com and I will repost it later on. This collection is gathered in order to research the possibility of an international standard logo, as instigated by some elder taiji brothers of mine in the English Wechat group.

In Chen style Taijiquan Practical Method the power is delivered to the opponent through the principle of non-movement. As “Don’t move” is one of the fundamental instructions in the system in order to separate the completion of a form in layers of a circle, the body has to be trained in the same way, meaning with set restrictions.
In the following video Master Chen is demonstrating the method of training the yin-yang reversal in the body, in order for the power to be directed to the hand without being caught in the inside of the body.

My name is Ramona. I started practicing Practical Method Tai Chi with Ping Wei approximately one year ago at Paradise Valley Community College. I have always liked martial arts and was curious about Tai Chi. The promise of strength, balance, and brain power intrigued me so I decided to give it a try. After all, what can I lose? After a year of steady practice I have improved, or so my teacher tells me, and he should know. After all he has been practicing for many years.

Background
In 2001, I started studying Kung Fu. My teacher also taught Chen Style Taijiquan from Chen Quanzhong. Watching my teacher perform Taiji at one of our demonstrations, I thought it was fantastic. I read “Chen Style: The Source of Taijiquan” by Davidine Sim and David Gaffney and thought I should really switch to Taiji, but I chose to continue down the path of Kung Fu since I had already started it. Personal Information
I was born in Austin, Minnesota USA in February of 1968. I moved to the neighboring state of Iowa as a child. My early experiences in life set me on my path in martial arts and a career of helping struggling children. I was a homeless orphan at the age of 15. I was fortunate enough to have been taken under the wing of someone who taught me kung fu every morning with no fees…it taught me many life lessons besides the martial aspects; such as commitment to others, commitment to the art, self-discipline, and an overall respect and awe for being a part of something that had a bountiful history, honorable tradition, and rich with culture.

Yesterday I had the luck to assist Master Chen and Pavel Codi in filming a corrections video in Prague. Apart from the valuable corrections received as an observer, later also had the opportunity to touch, see and feel exactly what Master Chen was describing before. Read more
For long time student, please notice how Master Chen uses practical method principle in this routine
The richness of Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method struck me in 2013 when I had my first encounter with Master Chen and his explanations. There is so much to learn for me. Master Chen told on several occasions, that if you think you know how to do practical method, you can stop to practice, cause you stop learning. There is always something that you don’t know, you can do better, you can improve, that takes time, that someone else knows or knows better … and so on.
At first, I was a bit disappointed. Read more
My bitter / sweet story is something many of us can relate to and maybe it is somewhat relevant to Master Chen – at least now I can empathize to some degree. The bitter aspect I am about to impart relates to frustrations that we may have all experienced in one way or another at some time in our practice. Perhaps the sweet part is that we are all in it together.
Thank you very much for Rachelle and Emile’s hospitality for hosting the Toronto group attending the Ottawa workshop. It was such a pleasure meeting both the old and new faces. The following are my notes.
This is a report written by Massimo Giorgianni from Toulouse, France. He is a full time martial arts teacher and will also host a Practical Method Workshop with Master Chen this year in Toulouse.
____________
In March I attended the annual Practical Method European Gathering held in Berlin. This workshop was my first time involvement with Chen Taiji Practical Method. I am a professional Wing Chun teacher and have 18 years practice in Wing Chun and 5 in Yang Taiji Quan.
Since I discovered Practical Method only two months before this event, I had to prepare intensively, and once there I had the great opportunity to receive first hand explanations and clarification from expert teachers. I could have an insight of the organized structure of the art, which successfully conveyed a basic understanding of the principles of Chen Taiji Practical Method.
This training involved the techniques of foundations, Yilu, practical applications and push hands.
Also this gathering is an opportunity for the European Practical Method community to build strong relationships in an intensive training environment. Definitively a must do! Next meeting will be held in Toulouse (south of France) beginning 2019, see you soon!
After becoming a disciple last year I solidified my plans about my future with Practical Method. One result is the foundation of an official association in Austria. After some back and forth with the responsible officials regarding the association rules we, Fabian K. and Pawel M. got the permission to begin our association activities.
Our association is registered as acting globally and not only in Austria. This opens new possibilities for the European community which is emerging now, since people from other countries can become members, too, benefiting from our services.
An association allows us to act as an official entity, like a company. We can now easily access public training space and be official partners for schools, companies and other projects.
It’s exciting. We are eager to begin our work and establish our association in Austria and abroad. It’s a long way, but so is learning Practical Method which equipped us with the right set of tools already through our training: continuous work and time.
We are preparing materials for marketing new events now. There will be new courses in and around Vienna and we’re planing events to promote Practical Method.
Who wants to be part of it? Just send us an email to pawel.mueller@gmail.com.
And the name of our association
Practical Method Taijiquan Österreich
Verein zur Förderung der traditionellen chinesischen Kampfkunst „Practical Method Taijiquan“ in Österreich
In English, please
Practical Method Taijiquan Austria
Association for promoting the traditional Chinese martial art “Practical Method Taijiquan” in Austria.

I attended Master Chen’s 2017 Sydney workshop for both days and Master Chen said in the 1st day that attendee can get the workshop video. I wrote an email to the workshop organizer last week but no reply. Does the Admin know how to get the video? Cheers!
Master Chen’s SEA Tour 2017 was an informative and well attended event. This annual event was organized by Disciple Nicholas Fung (馮嘉傑) from the Hong Kong Practical Methods. Participants from the region and Canada attended three nights of intensive training on the theory and applications of the Practical Method of Chen Style Taijiquan. The lucky few also had private one-on-one training with Master Chen. A special thanks to guest instructors Pang Zhao Li (庞朝立; Rizhao City, Shandong Province; 山东省日照市) and Brenon Toh (Canada) for helping out during the seminar. The following is some of my notes and impressions of the seminar. |
Congratulations to Master Chen and the Daqingshan students on making the 5th Daqingshan International Taiji Competition (大青山第五届国际太极拳大赛开赛) in Rizhao (日照), Shandong province (山东省), China a resounding success. There were more then 32 countries and regions represented; 130 teams fielded and 1170 contestants with more then 70 international representatives taking part. For the first time, real time Youtube broadcasts of some of the push hands competition was available to an international audience. Information on this event is available here. (in Chinese). I hope Practical Methods members who took part will share some of their experiences in this thread. |

We are glad to announce that the second European Practical Method Meet-up will take place in
Berlin on the first weekend of March 2018 (3rd & 4th).
Please let us know if you’re coming, as soon as possible (deadline January the 8th), so we can book
an appropriate training hall and organize a daily schedule.
The event is free, but there will be costs to share for the hall. The sooner you register the sooner we
can book, the cheaper it gets.
Registration is done simply by emailing us to practicalmethod.europe@gmail.com
If you are not from Europe you can join anyway, of course 🙂
This get-together is for all PM practitioners. It is not a workshop, but rather a training together to
exchange our experiences.
So there will be no teaching for beginners. That means you should know at least
the first 13 moves and the core foundations. You can struggle through the rest of the Yilu with us.
If you need more information feel free to ask us (practicalmethod.europe@gmail.com)
My family was visiting Ottawa for the weekend of Oct 21-22, 2017. James Tam, Ming Tam and I got together to train early on Sunday morning. It was a great training session, and we worked on the following:
1) Stretching and how to progressively connect the hand to the rear foot
2) Half horse stance: how to fill the front kua, how to do one knee up and one knee down
