But with three kids now and a full time job I simply have no resources to start a group this way. “There must be a better method” I thought. Night of Push Hands (Tournament Style) i

Night of Push Hands is an event for push hands enthusiasts to improve their skills. Matches will be run in a tournament format with different weight divisions, and winners from the weight divisions will compete in the grand championship round. There will be a referee for each match with two 2-minute rounds with a 1-minute break in between.

Anyone interested are welcome to join. Spectators are also welcome.

The 6th Daqingshan International Competition

The start of my stay in China coincided with the 6th International Daqingshan Competition (April 28th to 30th this year), a yearly gathering that Master Chen started to promote both Taijiquan forms (a series of choreographed movements particular to each Family style) and also to provide a stage for a large scale Push Hands (a means of practicing Taiji techniques whilst trying to unbalance your opponent) tournament.

2017 Martial Arts Festival in Toronto i

Practical Method was invited to participate in 2017 Martial Arts Festival in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada.
Shaolin martial arts from China were the main attraction for the event. Many local martial arts school were also invited to showcase their talents.
Kelvin Ho leading Bruce Robinson, Kevin Sun, Lucas Lu and Mark Hanley performed a yilu demonstration. A kids experience class was also conducted. A booth was set up to promote Practical Method. Eric Foo, Ken Fong, Louis Chan, Marianna Chan, Michele Chu helped with taking photos and videos, and looking after the booth.
Thanks to everyone who came to support as well.

Practical Method Meetup in Vienna, Europe
17th – 19th February 2017

What a cool experience! On 17th of February 2017 we had the first PM Meetup in Europe. A meetup which was dedicated to meet other groups practicing our art. It was no workshop in that sense, but we were lucky, that Rick Pietila, a disciple of Master Chen was still in Vienna at that time and was leading most of the training. He prepared a training schedule which build up over the course of the meetup. Everybody was exhausted afterwards, but happy to meet other peers and to have learned so much from Rick.

Taiji Seminar Tour Daqingshan China August 2016 i

August 2016 Taiji China Seminar Tour.

This trip is organised to coincide with Master Chen Zhonghua’s seminar for Chinese and International students. The 7 days seminar will focus on Push Hands applications, but there will be ample opportunity to improve your form and or to learn a Chen style sword form (Straight Sword or Broad sword).

This is a trip for Taiji enthusiasts. You can practice as little or as much as you desire. There will be several Chinese instructors available during the period as well as international instructors who will be attending the seminar. This is not a ‘See China’ tour, but a Taiji training tour.

Assume you have two 1.5hr classes per week (for a total of 3 hrs per week), this trip gives you the opportunity to learn 35 weeks of material. (Based on 105 hours of training over 12 days)
