The workshop was on voice and movement work for theatre artists and Daniel Mroz taught some fundamentals of Taiji, which is reflected in the photos. Read more

Happy Father’s Day to Master Chen and all other fellow fathers!祝陈老师和他的作为父亲的学生们父亲节愉快!

Question, “What is it like to have no circles?”. The master answered, when you boil water, you will know that boiled water does not whistle. It whistles only when it is about to reach the boiling point. That’s because the water in the pot reached the same level of temperature.

Finding the Opposite i

by Khamserk on 2010/06/15

When somebody touches you, find the opposite point and rotate on it. When you can find it and know what the opposite point feels like then you can make that point anywhere. This spot acts like a pulley.  It moves but doesn’t move, it doesn’t move but it encourages movement.

Arrived in Beijing! 3

by webmaster on 2010/06/14

Arrived this afternoon with Kham Serk from Edmonton. We went for supper at a typical little Chinese restaurant near the train station. Cost 45 yuan for both of us! It’s fairly hot here already and it is hazy and humid. We are trying to stay up till 9:00pm to combat jet lag! Hope this reaches our friends outside of China.

When I practice Yilu at the office gym studio, every now and then, I will run into another colleague practicing bajiquan at the same time. I didn’t know what bajiquan was, and coincidentally Master Chen posted a video from a bajiquan master not so long ago. Read more

Thanks. Not a problem.

There are two ways of looking at this.

Hi Master Chen,

I wanted to say thank you as I succeeded to use what you taught us at the last seminar when facing a very bad situation. Last Friday, I was seriously verbally aggressed and threatened with a knife and taiji philosophy saved my life. I used a lot of psychology, lots self-control not to show my fear and to disarm my attacker, and good communication skills that also disarmed him. I managed to get out of the situation without a single scratch god thanks! I was thinking of those principles that you taught us and I used them in a psychological fight instead of a combat fight and it worked very well. Read more

Cora Li and Kelvin Ho. Video taping by Ki Nam Choi.
Based on the circles, we worked on:
  1. How to find the exact opposite point to create a stretch.
  2. How to move the chest muscle down and backwards.
  3. How to tuck the buttock towards the heel.

Hello all my Taiji brothers and sister!

I just registered this site, and breaking it in by dropping you all a line and say “hello”.  I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones on Daiqingshan this August!  I will be accepted as a disciple!  I am very excited about it!

You won’t believe me if I told you that we spent three hours working on the first move of the positive circle. That’s what we did! Of course we also went through the entire circle in 9 moves as a warm up. We worked on not moving the hand; block touching coat and drills. Time to get some sleep for tomorrow’s workshop! Read more
Here are some pictures the Italian friends made me during my workshop there in April, 2010. Is it Italian enough? The lady in the picture is Dina Kerr who helped interpret the workshop into Italian during the October 25, 2009 workshop in Victoria. Read more

Thanks to all who helped the last three days. I am finally in Vicenza at 4:00 am. It was a horrible 3-day race to get to Prague and Vincenza. Sorry I couldn't make it to Prague on time!

Stuck in Helsinki i

by admin on 2010/04/16

Stuck in Helsinki because of the Volcanic Eruption in Iceland. At least we have canceled the workshop for Saturday in Prague. Checked boats and railways but it is very difficult to get out. Might have to travel by rail through Russia. One student from Poland is stuck here with me. He is supposed to travel to Prague with me. His girlfriend is already there waiting for him. Delays and inconveniences!

Ireland Workshop 2010 i

by admin on 2010/04/10

Busy last few days. Getting used to the goat smell  in the coffee. Still cannot figure out whether it is in the water or in the cream. Workshop is going well. We spent more time on push hands this year. Yesterday’s schedule was light but ended up quite a heavy one. Corrected Hans on his Yilu. He had learned it by himself before the workshop. Remarkable job completing the Yilu on his own through DVD! Except of few directional changes, most of his moves are all in place! Hans is from Belgium. Read more

Arrived on time in Ottawa. Almost 30 degrees! James Chan and Steve Chan came to the airport in their T-Shirts! It’s nice to be warm!

Stopped by for fast food on the way to Gilles-Vallant Taichi Center.

3:00 pm private with Pierre.

4:00 pm private with Daniel.

Supper with James, Daniel and Steve.

7:00-10:00 pm Qigong and push hands at Gilles-Vallant Taichi Center. Lots of pushhands exercises.

It was after 10:30 when we got home to Jame’s place. A bit snack and push hands explanations.

1:00 am now but it actually is only 11:00 pm for me. Good day today but tomorrow I will probably be tired from lack of sleep.
