Workshop

Day 1

  • The kua has to come out (draw a line forward with the kua).  Don’t move anything but the kua.
  • Partner exercise: partner sets a dot a few inches in front of the kua; you have to get your kua to touch it.
  • Add speed – do it 5 times fast.  Add power – have someone hold onto your kua from the rear.  Add stepping – connect it to your elbow and don’t let the elbow move.
  • Learning – have to make ideas based on physical reality, not on ideas.

About learning

1. Give it enough time. The secret is time.

2. Give yourself enough time to find the shortcuts.

3. Progress comes from holding yourself. Don’t overshoot yourself. Don’t use power.

4. Train the rail – first, you will not get the line. 3-months later, the trajectory is imprinted on the body [with practice]. You’ll see the line.

1425492_10201477324005500_882214807_oI just made it home from the workshop in Puerto Rico. I had a wonderful time, far too short. Master Chen’s teaching and guidance was exemplary as usual and much appreciated.
I met and made a lot of new friends, brothers and sisters on this path to learning Chen. A special thanks to Raul Pujol, Rafael and Olga for their kindness and hospitality. They made the trip easy and enjoyable.
I will definitely get another trip planned for the near future where we can get together for some training and more. Thanks again guy’s.

You won’t believe me if I told you that we spent three hours working on the first move of the positive circle. That’s what we did! Of course we also went through the entire circle in 9 moves as a warm up. We worked on not moving the hand; block touching coat and drills. Time to get some sleep for tomorrow’s workshop! Read more

There is normally a Sat. evening dinner. This is more formal dinner. Students also contribute to Master Chen’s dinner expense. It is expected that nothing fancy or costly will be ordered.
