James Strider – Fulltime Training Blog Wk3 2019
“You are all so clever, you’re stupid!”
These words, uttered by Master Chen (with his usual impish grin and mischievous glint in his eyes!) at his premier European workshop way back in 2006 when he came to Holland, have since been heard by many others around the globe. As the room was full of grown Dutch men in this instance, a nation that prides itself on being pragmatic, logical and individualistic, they did not go down well! Read more
In the night from 19th to 20th of August, I arrived on Daqingshan. After I slept of my jetlag, there’s been an early morning gathering for some radio station interview on the 21st. Read more
My name is James Strider and since meeting Master Chen in Holland way back in 2006 I have been pretty much obsessed with the Practical Method. Having started my journey with Chinese Martial Arts, in this case classical WuShu, in 1987 at the age of 14, I was envious of the few students who could go with our Sifu back then to China for up to 3 months at a time to study. They would return with colourful stories (mostly about the lack of toilet paper and milk!) and I would see their skills increase significantly each time. It was then that I promised myself that I would one day make it to China and stay for at least 3 months. Read more
Background: I’m Harshil Meraiya, age 32, from Pune, India. I learnt Yang style Taichi from August 2011 to Jan 2014. I had no other Martial Art background. I was introduced to Practical Method by Sandeep Desai in Jan 2014.
During next 6 months I learned choreography and basic foundations from Videos and Skype sessions with Kelvin Ho and John Upshaw. I started accumulating lots of PM brothers as friends on Facebook providing me feedback, guidance etc on my yilu videos I posted…

Since Aug, 1st we are here on Daqingshan for Fulltime Training with Master Chen and all fellow students and disciples. Below some more pictures of these days.
We had plenty of opportunities to improve our Taiji, there were lots of lessons with Master Chen, sceduled ones but also the “little things” in between – just as I was used to experience it on DQS. Very nice, that though the whole thing here is getting bigger, the main spirit did stay the same. Read more
May 1: More students are coming up to the mountain to learn from Master Chen.
Thoughts: When teacher teaches us a principle, we quickly “interpret” into something we already know. This is not learning. This is teaching ourself. We lost the real teachings. The right way is to take notes verbatim. Don’t need to understand right away. Follow the method.
May 2: Touch more points. It is like typing on a typewriter with all your fingers instead of typing with one finger.
Each movement requires a non-movement to support.
Dont Move is absolute in space. Don’t Move is relative. Don’t Move is also directional. Read more

From time to time there is this dense fog on the mountain. Actually that the clouds. So you could say we were in heaven. For all interested going there: Most days during my stay were sunny, even in march.
But this fog was great, too. So mysterious. Sometimes you couldn’t see more than 10m. Ask John Intervalo about it. He arrived in a very dense fog and couldn’t see most of the mountain for about four days. But what a sight after that. It’s so beautiful there.
It was cold, wet and grey when I arrived on Daqingshan in May. Under my cold, cold breath I cussed Singapore friends who told me to pack short-sleeve tees. And oh, the stairs! Stairs to Wangting hotel, stairs to Changxing training hall, and more stairs to the condo. Surely the three weeks of training ahead would drag on. Read more
I have just come back home from a month training on Daqingshan. I enjoyed it immensely and wanted to write a bit about my experience in hopes of convincing others who are thinking about going to go. I must admit from the experience I have only one regret, that I wasn’t able to stay longer. Read more

Reasons to make Daqingshan your 2014 vacation/training destination (details for 2014 on this page)
- Constant feedback, feedback in term of practicing with other students together.
- Daily class with Master Chen, if you have questions you can go directly to him for clarification.
- No distraction, only there to learn and practice.
- Motivation and direction for daily practice. This is something you will bring back from Daqingshan.
Having trained daily on the mountain, the body will get used to it and will want to continue after mountain training is over.
I have been there every year since 2010, so these points are all from my experience.
Lesson and demonstration of stick and rope that was previously covered in this video Hand-Foot Connection Online Video, then we did group photo under the clear morning sky
