To get into the taiji mode, you must first accept some (strange) taiji concepts.
We all know that taiji comes from Wuji. Taiji is the result of Wuji splitting into two. And then two is further developed into three. This is the basic Heaven (wuji), earth (taiji) and man (everthing else).
We can use a basic lever to illustrate this.
When you push one end of the lever down, the other end moves up.
The original lever set is wuji before you use it.
When you push one end down, you are splitting the lever rod into two because the pivot in the middle is a demarcation.
Although this splits into two, the two sides of the lever are not the same. They still are the same as there still is only one lever rod.
So in the instance of the lever set, we have zero, one, two and three and yet we consider all of them as the same.

This is part of the conversion concept of Practical Method. When you compress vertically, you will get a horizontal move. In this mini video, Master Chen demonstrates how a taiji compression is achieved.

After training for a long time, the body becomes quite even. Almost everything has reached a level that measurements are automatically proportional. At this point, when you make a move, you need to stretch a bit to ensure that your movement is larger than the target of your movement. For example, you want to put a ring on a hook. Your body will just miss it as the ring distance will just match the distance from the hook. So when making the move, you stretch a bit to make your ring just land on the hook.
At this point you will look like every time you move you are stretching something. This something usually is your elbow, armpit, kua and knees.

A basic Practical Method rule for movements is that all movements must be converted, i.e. vertical movements must be converted into horizontal movements, horizontal movements must be converted into vertical movements, etc. In the same way, active movements must be converted into passive movements.
When you can make this conversion both ways and you will be able to have the vertical while making horizontal movements and vice versa. At that point your body have these two conversions happening at the same time. We call that a cross. It is an indication that you have the spiral on you.

A basic Practical Method rule for movements is that all movements must be centered on the Dantian, controlled by the Dantian, and initiated fromo the Dantian. For beginners, this is too much so it is only something to keep in mind. You don't have to do all of that yet.
For now just tried to see that there is an allowed distance between all parts of the body with the Dantian. Think of the Dantian as the Sun of our solar system. All other planets and satellites must be orbiting the Sun. Too close or too far would cause disaster!
Try to see this point by observing Master Chen Zhonghua's body and his movements!

A basic Practical Method rule for movements is that there has to be a conversion. When making a horizontal move, it must be converted to a vertical move, and vice versa. Master Chen Zhonghua uses Six Sealing and Four Closing in this case, to demonstrate how this conversion is done.
Right on but a bit off. Right on is the position of collision. No right on (a bit off) is the position of collapse. In between, there is a tender spot.

If you lock the middle to make it a pivot, you can then stretch the two ends. Many moves in Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method are based on this principle.
