Every move must have three steps: contact, fill up and release. If this procedure is followed, a push is not a push instead, it is to release the opponent. Therefore, no effort. In this video taken at a workshop in Victoria, B.C. Canada, Master Chen demonstrated the procedure on Trevor Juuti of Drayton Valley, Alberta, Canada.

I was reading through some of the student/user posts and came across a submittal by Wilkin Ng regarding the Maple Ridge workshop last year. In it he was talking about the concept of not “pushing” in doing push hands. Your reply confirmed that there is no pushing in push hands, but went on to say that “every push must be a pull”. In August 2010, full time taiji students on Daqingshan were invited to a competition in Weifang, China by Master Ai Shenghua. At the competition, Steven Chan and Kham Serk Yawynren demonstrated Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method push hands.

Neutralizing is taking up the space before your opponent can and adding slightly more. I’m not sure, but maybe is the same as when Master says that there is one line with two sides to it: you follow the opponents line back and then step in on the same line.
