Master Chen Zhonghua is returning for the annual North
American Practical Method Training Camp. We will be having early check-ins
on July 16th. If you are interested, Master Chen will conduct private lessons
on that day. It’s a day to get settled in, catch up with friends, and
informally train taiji! Early check-ins can be arranged by letting us know and
paying Prariewoods directly for lodging that night. Camp officially begins
July 17th and runs through July 22nd.
This will be an intensive workshop welcoming student of
all levels. This workshop historically has been attended by a high number
of Master Chen’s disciples. This benefits the disciples in many ways and
provides newer students with additional opportunities for learning. It’s
an atmosphere for becoming immersed in Practical Method!
Once again, the taijiquan training, lodging, and dining
will be at one location with one cost, at the same location where we have been since 2017. This will be an intensive workshop focused on theory, foundations, yilu, push hands, and applications. Disciples will participate in the instructions.
There are 33 accommodations on-site and 2 single-occupancy cottages. Those slots will fill up. We will list hotels near the retreat center and allow those individuals to participate just like the other participants.
This post will contain this year’s sign-up and ongoing camp information. Please don’t assume you have a bed unless we confirm it. A Facebook event will also be used for
sign-up.

The Neo-Confucian philosopher Zhu Xi (朱熹; 1130–1200) of the Southern Song dynasty eloquently stated, “Knowing is the beginning of action, and action is the completion of knowing” (知是行之始,行是知之成). This profound insight highlights the essential interplay between intellectual understanding and its practical application. Students, inspired by the opening line of the Analects—“Is it not pleasant to learn with a constant perseverance and application?” (學而時習之,不亦說乎?)—embark on a rigorous journey of study and introspection. Teachers, like the esteemed Tang Dynasty scholar Han Yu (韓愈; 768–824), fulfill their vital role in “transmitting the Way, imparting instruction, and resolving doubts” (傳道、授業、解惑), guiding students to deeper understanding.
