In view of the current Covid-19 restrictions, the government of Wulian held a county wide sports meet, part of it is the 8th Daqingshan Taiji Competition. Thanks to Han Rui, Qiu Liwen, Wang Guixiu and Sun Peiliang.

Practical Method requires that the elbow cannot be hyper-extended. It cannot be strange. In our special language/terminology, we open the elbow with a result that it becomes lively (活).
This exercise is designed to form a habit that the elbow is always slight bent.
On Sept. 13, 2020, Sooyeon Zacharias became Master Chen Zhonghua’s 372nd disciple in the Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method lineage..
Because of various reason including Covid-19, her discipleship ceremony was postponed several times. Finally on Sept. 12, she drove 14 hours from Litton, BC. to Edmonton, Alberta. The next day, she was inducted as Master Chen Zhonghua’s 372nd disciple in a simple ceremony in Master Chen Zhonghua’s Headquater in Edmonton.
Sooyeon started learning the Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method system in 2018, joining the Maple Ridge practice group. She has not missed one single workshop since then. In 2019, she participated at the 7th Annual Daqingshan International Taiji Competition.
This is the most basic three count of the Practical Method positive circle.
Dixian,底线,bottom line, is the most basic of the Practical Method. It refers to things that cannot be questioned, discussed or researched. They are things that must be accepted in whole. Read more

In taiji we say “Sink down to grind out”. This saying refers to the action of this device. It is called a Nian.
Sink down, is when the grinding stone goes over something, it does not float up lightly, instead, it will go over within downward sinking power. It moves forward leaving a trail of powder behind!
In addition, when we push this grinding stone forward parallel to the the ground, our forward power is converted to an vertical power through this device called Nian. This is taiji conversion!

It’s CHINESE Qingming (Memorial Day) in China today. Thinking of my two masters: Hong Junsheng and Feng Zhiqiang.
Master Wang Zhanjun uses the video clip “Sink the Waist to Press the Elbow and Whip” to analyze taiji in his teachings. The animation at the end was created by Xu Jingpeng. Master Wang is the son of Grandmaster Wang Xi An, one of the 4 Tigers of the Chen Village. Wang Zhanjun is also. Ten-time National Push-Hands champion in China.
Move the Middle (fix the two end and move the middle). Fixed the thigh contact; fix the hand elbow contact; use the kua movement to complete the action.

Jieshou, a Chinese word that means “accept hand”, is a term used in Practical Method. You will get an idea of what it means after viewing the video clip.
It is important to know that Practical Method does not allow head-on collision in making initial (or any other) contact with the opponent.
