Master Chen:

Great explanation. Really clears up how the movements in the form are supposed to work (I was somewhat confused about this). This will help as I continue to practice the form. I really enjoyed the description of how we are trying to covert everything into vertical movements (and separation) versus horizontal movements and using momentum. This clears up the concept of the three axis that we are trying to develop as well as explaining how the central axis differs from the other two “kua” axis and getting a bite to be able to return the energy.

To let you know, I have been able to make contact with Alex Renwick here in Houston and he is helping me with the Yilu form.

That’s great. It is essential to have the Yilu choreography in order to understand and implement a lot of the concepts later on.

This video has a fantastic explanation of the structure of the body, specifically the vertical lines required for rotation. This should be a required video before watching The Hinge video.

This video is a great value like many in my collection. Master Chen goes into a subject that he touches on in other videos, but here makes very clear the use of vertical lines in relation to being solid on the ground. Not only does he explain the kicks in but he talks about transfer of weight through compressing, something I thought we did, but did not know how to apply in the form until seeing this video. Adding yet another element to deepen the Yilu practice. This is surely a must own!

Another great addition to enhance our understanding . Time to do my 20 yilus. To try and engrain this concept further into my body. Thank you Master Chen for the profound teachings not found any where else…

In addition to the detail around the tornado kick, this video has some fundamentals on how to transition movements in the yilu, which are presented very clearly. The details are extremely important to those like me, trying to move from basic choreography to incorporating Practical Method essentials into my training.
