Master Li Chugong was born in 1936 in Gaomi, Shandong province. He started learning taiji from Grandmaster Hong Junsheng in Sept. 1966 for 30 consecutive years. In 1983 he taught at the Black Tiger Springs Park, Railway Technical School, and Shandong Drama School. In 1997 he taught in Jiangsu, Guangdong, Anhui, Henan and Liaoning provinces.
Students came to study with him from the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Anhui, Henan, and Liaoning. They also came within Shandong province from Tai An, Jining, Linyi, Dongying, Yantai, Weifang, and Rizhao. Foreign students came from Japan, USA, Italy and Russia.
One task that Grandmaster could not accomplish in his life was to create a two-person form because of various reasons at the time. I received many years of Grandmaster Hong Junsheng’s tutelage and feel that I have an obligation to finish this task of his. From 2000 to 2005 I choreographed the two-person set for both Yilu and Cannon Fist. The book was written in memory of his 30 years of tutelage.
In 2008 I recorded a set of VCDs of the forms with demonstrations of every move: eye, body, stance and hand positions with voice over. I also included demonstrations of the the movements for both sides. I hope taiji students can use it as a reference.
