OK, my mind is officially blown. This video shows some of the depth of Master Chen’s training and teaching. This explains some of why his touch feels so mysterious. His comparison to using a keyboard illustrates to me my inadequacies. I move and respond like a single fingered typist. This is part of the reason I toss so much. When I am touched, I fight with one finger. When Master Chen touches me, I cannot respond beyond the one finger. I cannot comprehend his many fingers on me and I am not sure why I fall down.
I have seen the weakness in my structure seemed to be related to singular focus. With this video, I can see that “change without moving” is a whole different level of using the body.
Much training to do!

This video contains one of the most important techniques and concepts in Practical Method.

00:30, by grabbing Master Chen’s arm, the student creates a handle to apply power to him and Master Chen is also able to resist through this system. But with this system, his moves and power will be within the student’s control.

00:45, by keeping the shape the same and change the power to his hand and arm, Master Chen changed the “handle” and changed how the system works.

1:00, he made another example. This time the handle is first set to the student’s chest and thigh, lock the system by not moving, then change the handle to his finger and hip.

1:40, he explains what he was doing in his own words.

3:00, doing the same thing with changing of the shape would look like this

3:30, doing it only without changing the shape, only shifting the power would look like this

4:00 to 6:20, he demonstrated how to shit the power by not changing the shape and activating different muscles.

6:55, this description through how a keyboard works is very important and very straight forward.

This is one of the lessons from the Iowa seminar that stays with me when I practice. It gives clear insight to what it means to not move. Across several seminars, I recall practicing similar exercises that work to develop this skill.
