Another excellent exercise I can add into my training.
I’m glad this was a mini lesson as the content is vast. I’m addressing this in the Jian Sword form, which I believe this footage applies, moving from the waist. Another application of this video, in the Yilu and push hands, I’m working on is not getting stuck on the shoulders…which I’m thinking can be reduced by taking the shoulders out of the equation by activating my waist to align my foot with the direction of my hand…much to ponder on there is…very good material!
This is an excellent mini video to demonstrate a very important point in Taiji application, namely how to use the waist rotation to connect the point of contact and the powering foot. It gives away the secret how master chen can use a seemingly irrelevant dot beyond the opponent’s body to “pull” him up,down or back. A must piece for people who has begun to understand the application of energy alighment in push-hand.
Definitely a great video to see how the circle is really a large spiral created by incremental body actions that each contribute to a specific portion of the rotation that powers out of the core. Every individualized movement creates its own angle and line that can be utilized to carve into or simply cut through the opponents lines. The broken down version demonstrated clearly shows the purely mechanical nature of the fundamental movements but as KT points out Master Chen is letting us see he is actualizing a dot in space as a fulcrum. It’s very clear at 9:45 due to the camera angle. I’ve practiced this push hands exercise for many years but with the explanations given by Master Chen I can see how many more layers can be built into it, and it’s 1000 times more useful than I ever understood.
Illuminating. Worth every penny!
The inner has to be larger than the outside. Excellent explanation and personal demonstration of connection of rotation of waist to contact point on the arm. Importance of direction and angle as well as from which part of the body. In short, very good instruction on how to connect hand to foot.
