Over the past weekend at the Hong Kong workshop, Master Chen’s move on KT trigged the fall detection feature on the Apple Watch Series 4:

The incredible thing was that KT hasn’t fallen.  He merely was knocked away from Master Chen.  Obviously, this blow has enough acceleration and gyration on KT and in turn the Apple Watch asked if KT needs medical attention.

Will we see the day that we can use the watch replacing the needs for mats?

Any engineers here can shed some light on the physics?

Is 9.81 m/s the speed required to trigger the SOS alarm? Master Chen was very gentle on me and my whole body bounced back. I did not feel any discomfort or much local strike of power, but the power of the issue apparently was great enough to trigger the fall detection feature of the watch. It was a typical issue of Master Chen, clean and crisp. You hardly feel anything and you are out.

In physics, a free fall accelerates at 9.8m/s. I would imagine Apple would set a value that is at least that much with the accelerometer/gyrometer to ensure that there is no false alarm. The speed might not cause discomfort. When we travel in a car, especially a luxury car, we usually don’t feel the speed unless we look out the window and see the trees passing by. Master Chen like a fine automobile delivered the blow was clean and crisp.
