Should we also practice reverse yilu?

I’m assuming you mean training the form on the left side (mirror image) of the orignal right handed dominant form.

I hear a lot of Yang style guys saying yeah
What is your reasoning for saying no?

Actually that’s something Master Chen posted with my name, so i assume it’s the official answer.

My original post on our facebook group said:
“Should we also practice reverse yilu?
(as in Yilu that start on the left side instead of right)
My current understanding says ‘no’, because overall Yilu is pretty balanced in terms of using left and right arms/sides all around. And in my evaluation, it seems that most people have the same flaws and shortcomings in their structure, which yilu readily addresses.
So perhaps there is a wiser reason as to why things are done the way they are done in Yilu.
To me personally people who believe, ‘well but you have to train ‘one side’ and then ‘the other’, haven’t really understood Taiji.

But thats just me.”

That said, avoid thinking about reasons, reason has nothing to do with Taiji. The moment you believe you can ‘understand it’ is the moment all chance for you to change is gone. Read Change, see Learn.

You have to read the entire paragraph. I meant to be minimal with my words.
In a broader setence it would be:

“The moment you believe that you are able to ‘understand it’, then, in that moment, any chance for you to change(what you are) is gone.
When you read the above sentence and you see the word ‘change’, what you should really see is the word learn.”

Because you have to change, your body has to change, and learning is not whatever you think or believe learning is.

I am only beginning to learn taiji, and the short form at that, so I still have a long way to go
but if you say the full form is balanced in left and right, then it probably is
I think I am understanding what you are saying
I guess after you have been training for a long time, even if the form may seem right hand dominate, your approach to a fighting situation is so broad that right or left side is not even considered, you approach it how ever it chooses to come
