What is your 2015 New Year Resolution?

by Chen Zhonghua Taiji Academy on 2014/12/31

chenwithhongThis is mine. What is yours?
  1. Continue to watch my masters’ original videos and read their original writings.
  2. Teach sword and broadsword.
  3. Stay away from the corruption of the society and of the taiji world. This means I will not copy or forward anything from the web. Every word must come from my heart, from my own experiences and from my own hand.

1. Continue with the yilu 20 a day challenge throughout the year.
2. Continue to check the yilu detailed dvds, the energy alignment dvds and the application dvds for each move to try and improve.
3. Practice, study, practice, study, practice……
4. Find some way to be able to attend more seminars and private lessons.

My New Year Resolution is to perform 5 “quality” yilu everyday. The minimum of my “quality” yilu is described in my posts here.

In addition:
1. Every move must follow “out with hand and in with elbow”.
2. Movement should be part of a positive or negative circle.
3. Perform my movement to the extreme. At the extreme is where transition between positive and negative should occur.
4. Maintain my structure in transition.

Correct on 3. I meant to say the following:

3. Perform my movement to the extreme. At the extreme is where transition between “in with elbow” and “out with hand” should occur. (Not sure if I describe it correctly in English. In Chinese the concept is 物極必反.)

Hi James! Additional information for other readers – As James says, 物極必反 / wu ji bi fan is a major rule in Yin Yang theory: When something reaches an extreme, it can only move in the opposite direction.
This is different from saying move one way, then move in the opposite direction. The qualifier in this rule is the word “extreme”. When we push something to *the extreme*, there is no where else to go, so if, upon hitting that wall found at the extreme, we push one grain more, “something” flips and we are on the other side, heading in the opposite direction.
This is a very important phenomenon and without it we cannot have TaiJi.

Clarification on 4. Maintain my structure while I am in transition (between moves).

To finish the yilu challenge… maintain a good standard of practice “foundations” included. Keep studying the alignment , and application videos. And research of practical method . To better understand and practice taiji principles. To be able to share practical method correctly with others… to get Taji into my being.

Have no regrets – everything happens for a reason doesn’t it.
Be as happy as I am right now or more so.
Ensure I have self practise time in my life for what I love to do most….whatever that is.
Keep it simple.
Commitment to self.
No expectations of self or anyone else. 🙂
It is what it is – acceptance is the key.

Master Chen’s No 3:
“Stay away from the corruption of the society and of the taiji world. This means I will not copy or forward anything from the web. Every word must come from my heart, from my own experiences and from my own hand.”

I like to join with this!

I started to thing more about the topic “corruption”, after Master Chen did talk about this on our last workshop. The point was, that it is so easy to say not to get corrupted, but that in the end eveybody gets … why is this so and how can we avoid this?

The why, I personally think, is always related to any kind of feeling a lack of something essential, like love, feeling self-worth, etc.
Further I think it can be overcome when we experience, that there is actually no lack of the essintials in live at all, instead there is plenty for everthing. But this is not always easy to be felt, and probably most people didn’t felt this kind of richness at all.
To me, this is one of the essentials of the teaching of the Buddha as well of the teachings of Jesus Christ to find this connection.

My new years resolution is trying to remember myself again and again about this in all circumstances, especialy when it’s difficult.

Our Taiji-System, for instance, to me is very rich in content, and also Master Chen’s support and the support of the system itself is huge.
Quite often we cannot realise this kind of fullness in whatever circumstance in live.
Hopefully everybody will get the experience of richness and fullness at some point, so we can remind ourselfs again and again. I believe, then we really can become un-corruptable.

This is a really high flying ideal Master Chen. It means to abstain from any form of self-importance and pride. You seem to be aware how silly such pride has made many gifted people and how it spoilt their art. I wish you good luck and strength. Only what cannot be shaken is one’s own.
