Section 1, 2015 A masterpiece and with 5 more sections to follow. This is great !
This Practical Method section 1 video of the first 13 moves of the Yilu form is the most detailed and complete explanation produced by Grandmaster Chen Zhonghua. The clarity of movement and the reference grid are a fantastic teaching aid for all students to follow. For beginners it is an invaluable aid to seeing the correct moves and for the advanced student a way to compare if you are actually correctly following the teaching. This is the newest and best reference for this form and will rapidly become the classic it deserves to be.
This is a must have video for anyone interested in correctly learning this form, and even as reference for any Taiji student to see how correct Taiji movement is clearly explained.
This first section will have the other 5 sections to be released soon as well to complete the 81 moves in the Yilu form. There is also a Mandarin version which will be a companion piece to the English one.
Strongly urged to get a copy now and start learning/comparing!
Great video! Thanks!!
Dear Master Chen,
I started Chen Taijiquan a year ago watching videos by Master Ma Hong (I live in foothills of Himalayas in India so don’t have access to any Master nearby; I doubt if there is a Chen style master here)
For the past few weeks i was facing knee pain so i searched for its remedy and saw your Chen taiji practical method videos. Working with few moves i found that very good. I also read Master Hong Junshen’s book translated by you.
Now i want to learn Taiji the way you teach.
Can i get full instruction videos for basic principles and Yilu?
What you need is the Detailed Instructions Videos 1 to 6. Only Section one and two are presently available for download – start with these two and add as the others are released. Other videos you need are Basic Foundations and Detailed Foundations. Keep watching the http://www.practicalmethod.com website for other information and details that expand on these videos that are the basis of the Hong Practical Method. Best wishes!
Dear Allan.
Thanks for the reply
Can you suggest other “old” videos apart from the “new” Detailed Instructions Videos 1 to 6 in which Master Chen has given detailed instructions on Yilu?
Master Chen Zhonghua is an exceptional teacher – to see laojia yilu movements broken down in such detail will greatly help my form development and appreciation, I look forward to further installments – just a little criticism re video production – the constant use of the blur effect in the movement explanation section is somewhat distracting.
This is so much easier to follow than the older video which was filmed with a potatoe.
Thank you Master Chen for this clear detailed instruction video. I am very pleased with the quality of the details you have put into this. I do recommend it to every enthusiasts.
Regards,
Emmanuel
Thanks very much for your encouragement.
Man, this is a good video! The movements are shown very clearly and his pointing out details is incredibly helpful. Other plusses are showing the movements from front and side positions and putting them all together to show the flow. So much to learn! Steve Doob
It’s a great video, with lots of detail and the grid does help to get directions right. I am as always amazed how clearly Master Chen shows kua movements and how they travel around the body.
What I find distracting is the frequent on and off of the focus (defocussing) right in the middle of the explanation. Shadows are less of a problem, so is the not always clear view of one grid line. That’s digital problems, no question.
It is a very good video and helps. I especially liked the explanation for the transition single whip-second buddha pounds mortar. It somehow seems to work better for me than the alternative in energy alignment, for the time being at least.
Great web site.
The pattern on the floor give clarity to the angles, and placement of the footwork.
Every time I view this video something not seen nor heard comes up which adds to my study of the
Practical Method. This video along with ” The longest part of the body structure ” filmed in Poland and the Ping Wei private detailed instruction video have help me work on the many many details I need to do properly.
The Ping Wei video is in Chinese which I do not understand, however I get the jest of what is going on and that is of great value as Master Chen repeats words/phrases several times which has piqued my interest.
Thanks to Kelvin Ho for pointing out in his comment the first 2 minutes of the vid which I appreciate.
This is really good, much better than the old videos, good as they were.
I was a little skeptical of the ‘grid’ idea, but it really works.
Hopefully the remaining sections will come out soon! Congratulations to everyone involved in the production.
Thank you Mr. Chen Zhonghua,
The best translation and explanation of concepts.
Having a grid for the background is a good idea.
This video would have my best recommendation to anyone.
I hope I get to meet Mr Chen some day.

I have registered twice and every time , it said an message sent to me but I received nothing afterwards. Can anyone help?
How may I help you?
The Beauty is in the details.
An Indispensable learning tool. After one year of learning the 13 and thanks to this video, I’m now sure I will be taking my practice to a new level
Detailed explanation, thank you. I want to ask question…what means to train form with power, and how often we need to train like that?
