Very useful explanation of momentum and power transfer.

My interpretation and explanation in my own words:

When a person pushes you on the left shoulder, you can take that energy and shoot it down to your left hip joint connected strongly and rigidly to your left leg. You now have a line resisting his force incoming. However, you then split off part of that force vector coming from your shoulder and send the other part to your right hip joint. Your right hip joint then sends it to the ground via your right leg, and it then goes “back up”. It goes back up to your dantien, or lower spine/gut/middle of your hip joints. At this point, your left hip joint is being locked in place by two power vectors (one coming from the enemy and one coming from the ground up). Because the hip joint locked that way and can’t flex, the power from the right hip joint that has been reflected back can only go somewhere else, either the left shoulder or the right shoulder through the torso/spine column. If it shoots up to the right shoulder, you now have a power source supplying your right hand that is equal to or greater than the force the enemy is using on you. In this fashion, it can be said that when an enemy strikes you, you are merely using his power reflected back to attack. With the utilization of mechanical advantage (levers) and force multipliers (gravity, momentum, centrifugal force), the outputted force can actually be several “times” greater than the initial source.

——- That is my current understanding. I’m sure I will improve upon it in time + work. My original instructors always told me that techniques were meaningless, when one could learn a single principle that unlocked a thousand techniques.
