This video really helped me to see and understand the gears more clearly. The section from 18:30-20:00 was particularly clear for me, in that the incremental seperation of the two actions of sink, rotate, sink, rotate….is like two gears meshing together…seperate actions but producing a unified effect. After listening to the lecture that follows, it made me think that smoothness in Taiji has not to do with appearance but more precision and quantity of seperation. where when we start we might have a clunky machine with only 5 teeth in our gears with a lot of space between gears so they bang together…at least we have real seperation. Over time we can work to have a thousand teeth in our gears that are machined tightly causing that incremental separated smoothness. It reminds me of a worm drive type of gear….as always thank you so much and makes my heart warm to think of you today and to see the eighteen balls living on in this video!
