We welcomed Charlie Gordon to our workshop this weekend. Charlie is from Victoria, B.C. He studied full time on Daqingshan for three months last year. This June, he is going for another three months on Daqingshan. Here are some of the areas we covered this weekend: 1. How to tuck the buttocks under. Demonstration and drills. 2. Foundations with Bill. Corrected by Chen Zhonghua. 3. When doing a moving step, make sure that the torso does not get tossed by the movement of your own hands. 4. Shoulder rotation exercises with Chen Zhonghua. Each person had a turn to push 2 minutes with Chen Zhonghua to get shoulder rotation exercises. 5. Push Hands: when in danger, open. Normal reaction is to tighten up and close when in danger. Jay and Charlie; Wilkin and Bob. 6. Yilu with Bill. 7. Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method sword. Led by Bill. 8. Circle drills. Do the circle normally. Pay attention to the power on front foot on count 1 and on rear foot on count 2.
Noticeable mention is Bob Fell. While he is not a great taiji master yet, this man came to the workshops not able to touch his ears with his hands from physical injuries in the past. Today, Bob is able to participate fully in Taiji that includes push hands with other students and sword play.
It was good to see the number of enthusiastic and sweaty pairs pushing hands throughout the weekend.
