When we were in the workshop, our mind was busy and the information was overflown. How much did we remember after the workshop? Indeed, very little. Now, with the help of DVDs, we can re-visit the workshop, we can see more details as if we were in a total new workshop, yet, familiar environment. Most important, we can play the parts again and again.
One of the examples at 5 min mark of the video was about “rotation”. If you think you know “rotation”, you need to watch it again.
Very small portion of the explanation was in Chinese (when Master Chen was talking to me). For people who know Chinese, it’s also a valuable part, especially on how to teach, how to observe.

This is the best 13 moves video so far. Apart from detailed explanation and correction, Master Chen show alignment and application as well. Master Chen said this kind of detail is for people with 10 years of practice. I think it will take over 10 years to get some of the finer points.

Thank you Master Chen for being so generous and open. Thank you Marvin and Gerry for you input to make this such a wonderful video, and thank Ping Wei for hosting Master Chen.

In attempting to learn the first 13 movements of Yilu, beyond the basic choreography and into the subtle mechanics, this video is EXTREMELY helpful!!! Master Chen patiently, and in incremental detail, explains what to move, what not to move (and when) to achieve proper alignment and to understand the dynamics of where all the levers are and how they are applied…. it’s really incredibly informative and clear…. i have lots to work on….
