This is a fundamental skill that takes time and practice to start developing skill. Best to start now. It turns your Yilus into Taijiquan, otherwise you are just doing a dance.

There is another good video on the topic called Two Lines of Energy. While on the same topic, the two videos have two different perspectives of presentation. It is really worth having both.

Notes:
1. Develop two different channels/paths for the incoming and outgoing energies. That is separation of yin and yang, which must happen at the same time. It is not yin and yang when you have one path coming in and then one path going out. Two paths must exist at the same time.
2. The two paths are developed by stretching outside of the arm at a time while keep the inside of the arm fixed, and vice versa.
3. For a stretch to happen, there must be a fixed point. We first practice by keeping one point fixed, and another point moving. The non-moving and moving parts are yin and yang. We must eventually be able to stretch with any part of the body at any time. At higher level, two points can go in opposite direction on the same line. When you can stretch while your opponent is moving, it is said that you know how to fight.
4. We don’t necessarily need to train every part. Once we truly know how to do it with one part, we will know how to do it for any other part.
5. Grandmaster Chen Fake used to put his hands inside his sleeves and continuously practice the stretch of the fingers from the elbow. Master Chen Zhonghua demonstrated that when he stretched his fingers, his hand would come out of the sleeves by a little bit.

This is one of my favorite mini-lesson videos. Two channels, inside the sleeves there is a treasure, stretch, dot, and method for development of skill are all explained to students getting exposed to these topics for the first time, so the topics are taught in a simply and clearly. However, this is not an elementary video. These are essential and advanced topics that can take years to develop. This video can get a student on the correct path.

Once the two paths are developed, which one is used for in and which one is used for out can be interchanged. The path on the arm is just one example. It needs to be there for every part of the body. Another example will be energy coming in the front chest, and energy is returned from the back by stretching the back.

I get it kelvin. Cool thanks. I understand and know the feeling. Never put a thought to it like that. This helps for me to have correct perspective and understanding. Thanks again bro.

For training, it is easier to think of two surfaces with different direction, just like a spiral in a screw. The torso has two surfaces in every move, one to receive energy the other to return energy.

A really nice video and with some interesting stories about Chen Fake and Master Hong! I remeber when i met Master Chen for the first time in Lin Yi i think, when we went to the restaurant with the rest of his close students,he used to practice the hand strech and while we were waiting for lunch he made a small lecture about it. Didn’t get much that time i have to admit! Watching this video clears a lot of things in my head!
