Oh! that’s awesome!! you can really see the s-line with the stick running through it, like a dollar sign tipped at 45 degree angle toward wall. I see where the arching gives you so much added length and at the same time opens all the joints, taking out protrusions and indentations, giving the “Peng” expanding structure!

This is great, its great to see it demonstrated again. Master Chen showed this in the Brazil workshop.
If you’re a PM student and haven’t tried it yet, I’d give it a shot.
Thanks again Master Chen, this video was great, and cleared many other questions.

Cheers

An awesome exercise that exemplifies many of Practical Method’s principals…another method to train the body…

Ha ha! “on the money” that’s funny :-), to be fair, I owe the dollar sign ” $ ” analogy to Master Chen’s “Edmonton 09” series….. a must see for all taiji practitioners. It does a great job of explaining fundamentals of many of the concepts that he teaches and how they are tied to Taoist philosophy. It’s loaded with Taiji gold!

Wonderful! I’ve been told lots of times by several folks to “not move when pushing”. And nobody explained how the heck I should do this (I also had doubts they could do it themselves but what know I, I might not have been able to see what I was shown). this video DOES explain in wonderful detail. Thanks a lot!!!

I love exercizes like this that allow someone to practice the application without the need of a partner….so often the use of a wall, or a post, or any immovable object can allow one to practice the various techniques…Master Chen has provided all of us a wonderful example of how to enhance one’s skills in a very real and applicable manner….

Master Chen, correct me if this is relevant, i would like to ask, once you’re in the position to push the wall, if my entire body is locked, and i aim to lift my front heel (without physically lifting it). The power from the front foot travels to the front knee, to the front kua, then the rear kua, to the rear knee and then finally to the rear foot, combined with the arching and downward stretch of the upper body to keep everything in place. does this allow me to push into the rear foot even harder??

once or twice a week I have been pushing the wall 10 minutes… it is making me feel very uncomfortable so that in a way i like it cause i know it builds up understanding of my structure and ‘taiji strength’. what an exercise
