Part I (13 corrections)

  • deeper and wider stance in general
  • always think of elbows first in general
  • Opening move
    • Keep the left hand fixed in space
      • Turn the left elbow as much as you can
      • Keep right hand higher than its elbow
    • Imagine holding someone’s arm at two points
  • Buddha’s warrior attendant pounds mortar
    • right-hand comes up straight
    • do not move centre or body
  • Brush the knee in oblique stance
    • Left hand goes straight down
    • Right hand (do not turn palm outwards)
  • Pulling elbows in
    • Bring both elbows/palms on a straight line towards centre
  • Rotating elbow strike
    • Rotate on horizontal plane (do not bend downwards)
  • After fetching water
    • Lower stance
    • Do not move
    • Go around pivot point while sticking to it
  • Punch
    • Bring left hand towards waist as fist
    • Rotate forearm as you extend for punch
  • After punch
    • Fix right fist in space
    • Bring elbow down as you protect right ear with left palm
  • create a rod from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger
    • one piece
    • keep hand flat
    • stretch middle finger out
  • squeeze base of wrist/palm to create the effect of the fingers spreading out
    • like a wheat bundle
  • develop enough control to rotate “the piece” several degrees about the rod
    • will be a small movement but will create a lot of power
    • wrist joint is too loose and elbow is too tight
      •  learn to loosen elbow and stiffen wrist
  • move the rod along its axis as you rotate it
  • Apply same principles as elbow one piece to other pieces in positive circle
    • Difficulty is in developing this control/awareness
      • The thigh will seem impossible to rotate

Part II (foundations – positive circle)

Elbow In

  • create a rod from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger

    • stretch middle finger out
  • squeeze base of wrist/palm to create the effect of the fingers spreading out
    • like a wheat bundle
