Brazil Workshop Review

This is the Practical Method. By Flávio Prado de Aquino

It took me a bit to write about the seminar that took place in Brazil in early December, had to go through a deeper review process. Also, these days that followed the workshop with Master Chen, relive and tried to apply what I had been transmitted. It’s a lot to work on.

But first I want to make a panorama of Taijiquan in Brazil. It will be difficult to address this issue, because in our country the Chinese martial art despite being very popular, still living ideas and assumptions without foundation. Regarding Taijiquan, we still do not know what is actually mainly because the practitioners of this art here in Brazil do not know why it had begun, much less why they are still practicing. Maybe there’s a moment in our lives that
we are lost and without direction, we lack something, so perform an activity “mystical” as Taijiquan and follow a “master” with an eccentric dress and incomprehensible speech, is a form to dampen this feeling of emptiness. But none of this is real.

Here then is the key word of what for me was one of the highlights of this seminar in Brazil: reality. What is the real Taijiquan? What we can really feel this practice? What can we achieve? I can not speak for all countries, but here in Brazil Taijiquan is a world of dreams and just choreography. But now we have a chance to change that. We just have to have the courage to admit what we do not know, then look ahead and work.

This is the Practical Method.

Master Chen put us face to face with the truth, with the tradition, bringing us many technical and philosophical questions, but always in the field of science and reason, because it is real, possible to see and “touch”.

This is the Practical Method. This is Master Chen.

To me, I am very excited to say that I’ll be included in the next small group of people making a big move towards the maintenance of the actual teachings, toward democratic education and equality to all who are interested in the martial arts and Taijiquan. This is one of the most valuable treasures they have.

I leave my thanks to those who spared no efforts to bring the refined technique and kept our country, one who does not hesitate to share how much we know with those who know less, who defined a method and directed us in the practice of Taijiquan. Master Chen, thank you very much.

This is the Practical Method.

This is Master Chen. This is the reality that begins in Brazil.
