Very helpful to see how power can be generated with the intention of everything squeezing and stretching onto a line… i don’t understand the intent of all the skin peeling off though?? i can imagine conceptually how that might make the inside come out (like a snake trying to shed its skin) but how do you generate that intent…maybe i’m misunderstanding the concept…

The detailed movements are harder than it looks. It requires small precise arching of different body parts; many which we never do in our lifetime.

This goes back to how connected the student whole body is. If you can control how different part of the body connect, and keep the connection throughout a move, then what Master Chen show is doable.

In essence Master Chen is showing how to shape a connected body to produce the stick efficiently, but if student can’t produce the connected & fluid body in the first place, then it is hard to get the result.

The skin peeling through is the rotational intent… Spiraling the segments is one way to generate power while maintaining the connection.

the one sided expansion that produces the peng force? like the two steel bands that are strapped together…when heated one expands faster than the other but because their banded together they warp? Master Chen talks about this concept sometimes…is that the arching/warping your referring to? In the “Two lines of energy” video it talks about lengthening the inside line faster than the outside and the “open and close” video shows how to arch the front kua (kua open exercise) to work at creating that one sided expansion in the front inside of the thigh…the “body functions” mini lesson that was posted yesterday really helps with the idea of the pelvis as a teeter-toter (vertical gear rotation) and the waist doing a seperate job as horizontal gear….Master Chen is right “the body is not designed to rotate” …its a lot of body parts to assign individual highly specialized (and contorted) tasks to

I actually haven’t seen the video where Master Chen explain the steel bars. And when i said “arching” i simply meant arching body parts. But the analogy of the steel bands is correct. And it explains why arching certain body parts make Taiji movements work.

In the steel bars example. It is because both bars are connected, the expansion of one bar will create a reaction on the second bar and vice-versa. Using some details on this video; the arching of your chest causes, your shoulder to open which stretches your hand. Arching down your shoulder causes a force on your kua. And so on.

oh gotcha thanks! it seems like squeezing towrds the line while expanding proportionately without breaking alignments helps to facilitate the bows while at the same time squeezing power into a focused line..

Amazing detail about 6 sealing 4 closing. Wish I could do that with Master Chen. Thank you Master Chen and Daniel for sharing this.
